Help Your Pet Get Rid Of Fleas And Ticks Naturally
Posted by Catherine V. TestarattiThere are many people I have spoken to are looking for a more natural way of handling flea problems with their pets. There are natural methods available that we will talk about in this article. Throw away all those environmentally unfriendly choices and use our solutions with confidence for the safety of your pet.
For those of us who have children, we are also concerned about our children being susceptible to the dangers of the chemical flea control. When we choose to have the pets, we also need to be responsible for their welfare. Choosing a natural treatment method is healthier for your pet and your family.
A great smelling option is to squeeze orange or lemon juice on your pet’s fur then rub it in. This citrus smell can repel fleas while eliminating those sometimes strong pet smells. Try some brewers yeast with a bit of chopped up garlic mixed into their food to repel fleas as well. However, eliminate the garlic for cats which can be extremely toxic for cats; as are onions.
When you give your dog a bath, notice that the fleas will fall off? Using liquid dish soap with a citrus base and a regular brushing will keep the flea problem under control. Fleas do not take hold of the hair shaft so these solutions are relatively easy.
Beneficial nematode worms work great in your garden. These are not the worms that cause heart worms so not to worry. These beneficial worms feed off the flea larva so having them in your garden and yard is a plus. Keeping your floors swept and carpets vacuumed will also help.
Ticks live in wooded areas in tall grass. Ticks are attracted to the warmth from the body. A good way to keep your dog tick free or to minimize the flea infestation is to cover them with an old T-shirt and use socks like leg warmers. I know it sounds funny but it will not only protect your pet to a degree, but definitely get people to notice you and your pet.
Puppies and babies used to be the all American “chick magnet”; but now there’s another ploy for you guys to try. One way we suggest, kooky as it sounds, to deter ticks is to take your old T-Shirt and put it on the dog. And compliment that look with a pair of socks work like leg warmers to protect your dog’s legs.
A natural tick repellent is rose geranium oil. Rub some on the inside of your dog’s collar and on their coat to ward off those pesky critters. Not recommended for cats because cats will have a severe reaction to these essential oils.
Remember that when you remove a tick you must do it properly, by getting the head of the tick from the pet. Summer time is the worst time for ticks and fleas so be proactive in prevention. Treatment of your yard, regular brushing and simple remedies and you should be pest free for summer.
