Those Who Work Better in the Dark
Posted by AnimalPsychicAs I walked from the house in the desert this evening my friend was looking up over the roof. The bats were out, and she commented the flight pattern was not the usual one. Nonetheless, we enjoyed watching them chaotically zipping through the air over the house, counting three bats, as though we could keep track of them. Dusk had arrived, and so had those who work better in the dark.
I thought in appreciation of their diligent work. One bat can eat 500 mosquito’s in one night. Without our bat population we would have a serious insect problem. This event brought a smile, and I remembered a recent bat related event, sharing it with my friend as we took a twilight walk. I had spent the day at the Reiki Ranch, and I slowly prepared my car for the journey home. Ipod in place, phone on the charger, bluetooth ready. Suddenly Taylore appeared from around the corner, circling my car. She had something in her hand. I flinched when she tried to hand it to me, mostly out of instinct. It was a baby bat. Clearly deceased, it was of no threat. For those who have not heard this advise, never touch or approach a bat. If you can approach them they are wounded or sick. Do not risk a bite.
I stepped out of the car and grabbed my camera. Photo Op! The next day the cat appeared with an adult bat. This noctural creature-fest has been an interesting one! Be kind to our bat friends, and provide them homes if you can. The guano is great for the garden, and you’re life will be a lot more insect free!
Some regard bats to represent death. While it is true, they do inspire fear of the unknown and fear of death, it is not physical death. The Bat represents the journey when we shed our own darkness, and step into our spiritual rebirth. In my own shamanic journey I welcome these creatures as a blessing of my own transformation into greater spiritual awareness.
